Recipe Name Hungarian Poppy Seed
Difficulty Level Medium
Traditional food from Hungary
Ingredients 1/2 cup margarine or butter
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1 egg
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
3/4 cup canned poppy seed
icing sugar
Preparation In a large bowl, beat the margarine or butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the lemon peel and egg, stirring in the flour, baking soda and cloves. Mix well.

Roll dough to 1/4 inch thick and wrap between two pieces of waxed paper.

Refrigerate for about 30 minutes or until firm.

Heat oven to 350ºF.

Grease a large baking sheet.

Remove waxed paper from one side of the biscuit mix.

Spread the poppy seed filling on to the biscuit mix, stopping about 1/4-inch from the edge.

Roll the mixture up tightly, peeling off the remaining waxed paper as you roll.

Pinch the final edge of the mix to seal it tightly.

Now cut the roll into 1/2-inch slices.

Place the cut slices on the baking sheet ,about 1-inch apart.

Bake for about 10 minutes or until the edges are light brown.

Cool, remove from baking sheet and sprinkle with icing sugar.
